Beak Lux is a vibrant Double IPA that reimagines New Zealand Cascade through a tropical lens. The unique terroir of the Southern Hemisphere shifts the hop's profile from resinous to bright and zingy. Supported by Citra and Motueka, the sensory experience is defined by layered notes of cloudy lemonade, ripe berries, and delicate apple blossom. This 8% ale balances its punchy hop intensity with a clean, supportive malt backbone, delivering a modern, fruit-forward profile that remains highly drinkable despite its strength. The finish is crisp and assertive, showcasing a sophisticated interplay of floral and citrus elements.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (SRM 7-9). Topped with a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head that leaves fine lacing. Displays a slight haze, consistent with modern dry-hopping techniques.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma dominated by citrus and tropical fruits. Prominent notes of lemon zest and lime are complemented by the ripe berry and floral apple blossom character of New Zealand Cascade. Secondary Citra notes provide a background of grapefruit and mango, over a clean, neutral, and grainy malt profile.
Taste. High hop intensity featuring initial flavors of tart cloudy lemonade and mixed berries. The mid-palate reveals soft, floral apple blossom and citrus oil. Bitterness is moderately high but smooth, lacking harshness. The malt provides a clean, soft, supportive base without residual sweetness. Finishes medium-dry with a lingering, zesty hop aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is medium-high. A restrained, clean alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, with no hop-derived astringency.
