This Double IPA is a vibrant showcase of modern hop artistry, featuring the experimental Anchovy hop from Segal Ranch alongside Citra and Motueka. The sensory experience is dominated by an explosion of candied fruit, specifically evoking watermelon jolly ranchers and yellow starburst. These intense tropical and melon notes are sharpened by a zesty lemon sherbert finish. While the 8% ABV provides a structural foundation, the profile remains remarkably bright and drinkable, leaning into a saturated hop character rather than malt weight. It represents a contemporary, fruit-forward interpretation of the style, balancing high hop intensity with a clean, supportive grain bill.
Appearance. Pale gold to light orange (6-8 SRM) with a soft, uniform haze. Topped by a dense, persistent white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward bouquet featuring distinct notes of watermelon candy, ripe tropical fruit, and bright lime zest. Background malt is neutral and grainy, providing a clean canvas for complex hop-derived oils with a very low fruity fermentation profile.
Taste. Leading with high hop flavor reminiscent of watermelon candy and lemon-citrus sweets. Moderately high bitterness that remains smooth and integrated. Low, clean malt support without caramel interference. Finishes medium-dry with a lingering, clean impression of lemon sherbert and tropical fruit.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, soft texture. Moderate carbonation creates a lively, refreshing prickle. A well-integrated, gentle alcohol warmth is present, consistent with its strength, without any harshness or astringency.
