Beak Fluff is a vibrant Hazy IPA that exemplifies the luminous, opalescent haze and lush texture of the style. The aromatic profile is dominated by a sophisticated blend of New Zealand hops, featuring the stone fruit depth of Rakau, the zesty lime brightness of Motueka, and the distinctive crushed white grape and gooseberry notes of Nelson Sauvin. These varieties, selected from throughout the harvest, provide a multi-layered sensory experience ranging from tropical nectar to fresh citrus. A soft, pillowy mouthfeel supports the intense fruit character, finishing with a gentle, restrained bitterness that emphasizes drinkability and hop saturation.
Appearance. Pale gold (SRM 4-5) with a deep, opalescent haze that creates a luminous glow. Topped by a thick, meringue-like white head with excellent retention and delicate lacing.
Aroma. Intense and punchy hop-forward bouquet. Dominant notes of apricot and peach from Rakau, followed by fresh lime zest and mojito-like citrus from Motueka. Nelson Sauvin contributes a sophisticated layer of white currant and passionfruit. Neutral, bready malt presence provides a clean backdrop for fruity fermentation esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a wave of tropical fruit nectar and lime juice. Rakau offers fleshy stone fruit flavors, while Nelson Sauvin adds a vinous, gooseberry complexity. The malt is lightly bready and supportive, leading to a moderate-low bitterness that never becomes harsh. The finish is soft and off-dry, lingering with juicy citrus and tropical fruit notes.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a remarkably smooth, soft, and pillowy texture. Moderate carbonation enhances the fluffiness without prickle. Very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present at 6.5%.
