This American Pale Ale captures the essence of a foggy spring morning with its vibrant, modern hop profile. Utilizing Ella and Hallertau Blanc hops, the sensory experience is led by striking notes of sun-warmed Sauvignon blanc grapes and overripe gooseberries. A subtle undercurrent of spicy floral character from the Ella hops adds complexity against a lean, neutral malt backdrop. It presents a crisp, refreshing profile that balances delicate fruit esters with a moderate, clean bitterness. The result is a highly drinkable, hop-forward ale that emphasizes bright, white-wine fruitiness over traditional resin, perfectly suited for a leisurely afternoon on the South Downs.
Appearance. Pale gold (approx. 5-7 SRM) with a slight, characteristic haze. It supports a moderately large, white, creamy head with good retention and light lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to moderately high intensity. Dominant aromas of white wine grapes and gooseberry from Hallertau Blanc, complemented by a light spicy and floral hop character from Ella. Low, clean, bready maltiness provides a neutral foundation. Fermentation esters are low and clean.
Taste. The flavor leads with crisp Sauvignon blanc grape and tart gooseberry notes. A moderate hop bitterness is well-integrated, supported by a low grainy-sweet malt presence. Secondary notes of spice and tropical fruit emerge in the mid-palate. The finish is medium-dry and clean, with lingering notes of white fruit and a soft, floral hop aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, soft texture. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a refreshing prickle on the tongue. Alcohol warmth is negligible, and the finish is free of astringency.
