This Double IPA, a collaborative effort between Beak and Uchu Brewing, presents an amped-up sensory experience driven by a massive hop bill. The combination of Strata, Strata CGX, and Nelson produces a complex aromatic profile of dank cannabis, grapefruit, and crushed white grapes. Idaho 7 and Citra layers contribute concentrated notes of dried orange, tropical pineapple, and zesty lemon drops. At 8% ABV, the beer remains remarkably drinkable, balancing its intense hop saturation with a lean malt backbone and a clean, dry finish. It is a vibrant, modern interpretation of the style that prioritizes bold, saturated fruit and resinous depth.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange with a persistent, creamy white head that leaves significant lacing. Exhibits a slight haze characteristic of modern high-protein grists and heavy dry-hopping.
Aroma. Intense and multifaceted hop aroma. Dominant notes of dank resin and grapefruit are followed by pungent tropical pineapple, passion fruit, and a distinct lemon drop sweetness. Very low, neutral grainy malt in the background; fermentation is clean with negligible esters.
Taste. Bold initial impression of citrus zest and tropical fruit. Hop flavors of grapefruit, dried orange, and pineapple are prominent. Bitterness is firm and assertive but lacks harshness, supporting a dry to medium-dry finish. A light, clean alcohol presence complements the resinous hop character.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, soft texture. Moderate carbonation provides a gentle prickle. A subtle, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present without any hop-derived astringency.
