Beachwood Brewing

Thrillseeker is a quintessential West Coast-style American IPA that pushes sensory boundaries with a vibrant, punchy hop profile. A lean foundation of American 2-row and a restrained addition of extra light caramel malt ensures a bone-dry finish, allowing the massive hop additions to dominate. Expect a bright bouquet of citrus and tropical fruit driven by Summit and Centennial, while heavy doses of Chinook and Simcoe provide a classic, assertive resin and pine backbone. The aromatics are intensified by a generous dry-hopping of Simcoe and Chinook, creating an über-fresh, dank experience. It finishes with a firm, clean bitterness that defines this bright and aggressive profile.

Appearance. Deep gold to pale amber (7-9 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a medium-sized, persistent white head that leaves intricate lacing on the glass.

Aroma. Intense hop aromatics featuring bright grapefruit, lemon zest, and pineapple. A heavy layer of dank pine and sticky resin dominates the profile. Low, grainy maltiness is barely perceptible beneath the hops, accompanied by a clean fermentation profile with no yeast-derived esters.

Taste. High hop flavor mirrors the aroma, transitioning from initial citrus and tropical fruit to a sharp, resiny mid-palate. Bitterness is firm and high, supported by a very subtle grainy malt toastiness. Finishes very dry and crisp with a long-lasting, clean, hoppy aftertaste and no harshness.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from hop oils. Medium-high carbonation provides a refreshing bite. A very subtle, smooth alcohol warmth is present, reflecting its 7.1% strength without being hot.

It’s then generously hopped with Chinook, Summit, Centennial, and Simcoe for a massive citrus and tropical hop profile. Thrillseeker is dry hopped with Simcoe and Chinook for an über fresh resiny aroma.

Inspired by some of San Diego’s best, Thrillseeker began as a humble homebrew in brewmaster Julian Shrago’s garage before becoming the second IPA (Melrose was the first) Beachwood brewed at its Downtown Long Beach location.
