Beachwood Brewing Mega Melrose
Mega Melrose is a formidable West Coast Double IPA that masterfully explores the legendary pairing of Simcoe and Amarillo hops. At 9% ABV, it radiates intense aromatics of resinous pine, dank earth, and pungent grapefruit driven by Simcoe cryo, while Amarillo flowers contribute bright layers of orange marmalade and fresh floral blossoms. The palate is defined by a sharp, assertive bitterness and a lean, crackery malt profile that allows the hop saturation to take center stage. This potent ale finishes exceptionally dry and clean, leaving a lingering trail of citrus zest and forest resin on the tongue.
Appearance. Pours a brilliant, deep gold to light copper with a moderate-sized, persistent white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Intense hop-forward aroma featuring prominent notes of resinous pine, grapefruit pith, and orange zest. A supportive, neutral, grainy maltiness sits in the background. Fermentation is clean with a very subtle, smooth alcohol warmth and light floral esters.
Taste. Strong, complex hop flavors dominated by resin, citrus peel, and light tropical fruit. High bitterness that is assertive but clean and devoid of harshness. A low, supportive malt character provides a slight cracker-like base. The finish is very dry with a lingering, resinous, and bitter aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from high hop oils. Medium-high carbonation. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth without being solventy; very low astringency.
