This Imperial Rye IPA delivers an assertive sensory profile defined by the spicy snap of rye and the vibrant complexity of Mosaic hops. The aroma is high-intensity, bursting with notes of blueberry, ripe mango, and resinous pine typical of Mosaic, supported by a subtle peppery graininess from the rye malt. Despite the staggering 150 IBU rating, the bitterness is firm but avoids harshness, cutting through a lean malt backbone. At 8.5% ABV, a smooth alcohol warmth enhances the medium body, leading to a bone-dry, lingering finish. This Double IPA emphasizes hop saturation and a crisp, spicy character that differentiates it from standard examples.
Appearance. Deep gold to light copper (8–12 SRM). Features a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head with excellent lacing and good clarity, though a very slight chill haze may be present.
Aroma. Prominent to intense hop aroma featuring Mosaic characteristics: tropical fruit, citrus, and berry, alongside a distinct pine resin. A supportive, grainy, and slightly spicy rye malt character sits in the background. Fermentation is clean with very low fruity esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a massive wave of hop flavor mirroring the aroma, followed by a sharp, spicy rye graininess. High to very high bitterness that is firm and persistent. Neutral, clean malt profile provides just enough support to prevent harshness. Finish is very dry with a long-lingering, resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from hop oils. Carbonation is moderate-high. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth without being solventy. Low astringency despite the high hopping rate.
