Basqueland’s Strawberry Ginger Squishee reimagines the traditional Gose as a decadent, fruit-forward experience. This smoothie-style ale pours with a thick, vibrant presence, led by an intense aroma of sun-ripened strawberries and a subtle, spicy lift from fresh ginger. On the palate, the jammy sweetness of the berries is balanced by a lactic tartness and a prickle of ginger heat. A delicate undercurrent of sea salt enhances the fruit profile, providing a mouthwatering finish. Despite its high viscosity and lush mouthfeel, the carbonation and acidity ensure a refreshing core, making this a complex, dessert-like interpretation of the historical European sour ale.

Appearance. Opaque and viscous, featuring a deep pink to reddish hue. Pours with a thick, creamy, pink-tinted head that shows moderate retention and leaves significant lacing on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity of fresh, jammy strawberry purée. Secondary notes of spicy, floral ginger and a hint of lemony coriander. Low bready wheat malt and a clean lactic sourness are present underneath the heavy fruit and spice.

Taste. Initial impression is an explosion of sweet strawberry and sharp ginger. The malt flavor is low, characterized by a doughy wheat quality. A noticeable lactic sourness provides balance, while a distinct saline character enhances the fruitiness and creates a mouthwatering effect. Very low bitterness with no hop flavor. The finish is lingering and sweet-tart, with a mild ginger warmth.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full to full body with a thick, smoothie-like creaminess. Carbonation is moderate. Contains a light alcohol warmth and a tingly, mouthwatering sensation from the salt and ginger.
