Basqueland Hydra
Basqueland Hydra is a monumental Triple IPA that commands attention with its dense, velvety body derived from a heavy grist of barley, oats, and wheat. The intricate hop architecture features a whirlpool of Vic Secret, Motueka, and Nelson Sauvin, further intensified by an experimental dry-hop of Nelson Sauvin, Idaho 7, and Mosaic. This combination erupts with pungent aromas of fresh pineapple and peach in syrup, accented by candied orange and the signature green gooseberry of Nelson Sauvin. On the palate, it delivers a lush, nectar-like sweetness and a massive mouthfeel, finishing with a persistent, resinous fruit depth and well-integrated warmth.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange; opaque with a heavy, persistent haze. Features a dense, creamy, off-white head with significant lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of fresh pineapple, stone fruit peach, and candied orange. Distinctive white wine and green gooseberry esters from Nelson Sauvin are present, supported by a light, bready, and grainy-sweet malt background.
Taste. Intense hop flavors of ripe tropical fruit and citrus dominate the palate. Initial impression of peach in syrup is followed by a firm, moderately high bitterness. Nelson Sauvin contributes a complex grape-like character while Mosaic and Idaho 7 add layers of dark fruit and resin. The finish is lingering and sweet with a soft, clean malt presence.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a notably creamy and smooth texture from the heavy use of oats and wheat. Moderate carbonation with a clear, smooth alcohol warmth that is appropriate for its strength.
