Basqueland Green Lips is a lush New Zealand Double IPA that showcases the expressive Rakau hop variety. An extensive addition of malted and flaked oats creates an extremely pale, hazy appearance and a distinctive pillowy, silky mouthfeel. The sensory profile is dominated by intense aromas and flavors of mango sorbet, overripe apricot, and sticky plum. While the 8% alcohol provides a gentle warmth, the focus remains on the vibrant, stone-fruit-forward character of the New Zealand hops. It balances a full-bodied richness with a smooth bitterness, resulting in a modern, fruit-driven interpretation of the style that is both indulgent and incredibly drinkable.
Appearance. Extremely pale straw (3–4 SRM) with an opaque, turbid clarity. Features a thick, persistent white head with dense lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of mango sorbet, overripe apricot, and sticky plum from the Rakau hops. A subtle, grainy, bready malt character from the oats sits in the background with a clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial impression of intense tropical and stone fruit, specifically apricot and mango. The Rakau hop character is vibrant and sweet-leaning, supported by a soft, bready malt base. Bitterness is moderate and smooth, leading to a medium-dry, lingering fruity finish with no harshness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full to full body with a characteristic pillowy and silky texture. Carbonation is moderate. Contains a well-integrated, smooth alcohol warmth without astringency.
