Basqueland’s Extra Crispy lives up to its name, offering a razor-sharp, modern interpretation of the German Pils. The sensory experience is dominated by the innovative use of Huell Melon hops, which deviate from traditional noble spice to provide distinct, refreshing notes of honeydew melon and sun-ripened strawberry. Beneath this fruit-forward layer lies a lean, cracker-like foundation of Pilsner malt. The fermentation is exceptionally clean, allowing the delicate aromatic oils from the hops to shine against a high-bitterness backbone. It concludes with a snappy, bone-dry finish and a lingering, flinty minerality that invites another sip, perfectly balancing old-world technique with contemporary hop character.
Appearance.Brilliant, pale straw-yellow (SRM 2-3). Pours with a dense, creamy, long-lasting white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma.Moderate-high hop intensity showcasing Huell Melon's unique profile of honeydew and subtle strawberry. Supporting these fruit notes is a clean, grainy-sweet malt scent reminiscent of fresh dough or crackers. Clean fermentation profile.
Taste.Initial flavor of light, toasted crackers is quickly overtaken by a firm hop bitterness. The mid-palate features prominent melon and berry hop flavors. The balance is decidedly bitter and very dry, leading into a crisp, clean finish with a light lingering herbal and fruity aftertaste.
Mouthfeel.Medium-light body with high carbonation that creates a prickly, refreshing sensation. Very crisp and well-attenuated, lacking any harshness but possessing a certain mineral sharpness.
