Basqueland Brewing

Basqueland’s Defcon 5 is a modern Double IPA that balances a bold, silky structure with refreshing dryness. A base of lager malt, flaked oats, and chit malt creates a soft, hazy body that carries a massive dry-hop profile. The interaction of Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic, Nectaron, and Citra hops delivers a whirlwind of ripe mango, juicy peach, and fresh papaya, accented by unique notes of tart blueberry and crisp white grape. Fermented with Saturated yeast for tropical depth, it offers a complex, saturated sensory experience that remains deceptively drinkable despite its strength, finishing with a delicate, clean dryness that invites the next sip.

Appearance. Deep gold to pale orange (6-8 SRM) with a persistent, dense white head and heavy lacing; opaque, hazy presentation consistent with the addition of flaked oats.

Aroma. Intense tropical fruit bouquet featuring prominent mango and peach. Secondary notes of crushed grape, blueberry, and citrus zest are supported by a neutral, grainy malt background and clean, well-integrated alcohol.

Taste. Initial flavors of ripe peach and papaya transition into a complex mid-palate of mango and white wine-like grape. A firm hop bitterness provides structure without being harsh. The finish is surprisingly dry and clean, leaving a lingering aftertaste of tropical fruit and tart berries.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a notably silky and creamy texture. Moderate carbonation provides a soft lift, while a restrained, smooth alcohol warmth underscores the beer's strength without any astringency.
