Basqueland Brewing

Basqueland Coco Chango is a robust American Stout scaled to imperial proportions, featuring a complex grain bill with tropical accents. This dense, jet-black beer is built on a foundation of eight malts, featuring a significant 15% contribution from rye and Chocolate Rye malt. The sensory profile is defined by intense cocoa and bittersweet chocolate notes, underpinned by the characteristic peppery spiced bread signature of rye. A subtle infusion of coconut provides a delicate, earthy coconut shell nuance that softens the heavy roast. At 11% ABV, it offers a smooth, warming finish that balances the aggressive roasted character and firm bitterness.

Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (SRM 40+). It produces a large, persistent, deep tan to light brown head with excellent retention and thick lacing.

Aroma. High intensity roast-forward aroma featuring dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans. The Chocolate Rye malt adds a distinctive earthy, spicy grain character. A subtle, natural coconut infusion provides a light creamy sweetness, complemented by faint dark fruit esters and a smooth alcohol presence.

Taste. Initial impression is dominated by intense cocoa and bittersweet chocolate. The high percentage of rye contributes a complex spiced bread and peppery flavor profile. Bitterness is firm and well-integrated, derived from both hops and dark roasted grains. It features a long, complex finish that balances a lingering hint of coconut shell with a moderately dry, roasted aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a creamy, dense texture. Carbonation is moderate to medium-high, providing a lifted feel despite the weight. A pronounced but smooth alcohol warmth is present, without any harsh or fusel edges.
