Basqueland’s Begi Haundi presents a striking, squid-ink blackness that sets the stage for a sophisticated Oatmeal Stout experience. The complex foundation of six specialty malts yields high-intensity aromas of freshly roasted coffee beans and dark cocoa, accented by nuanced layers of licorice and dried fruit. On the palate, a silky, cream-like texture from the generous addition of oats provides a luxurious mouthfeel that balances the robust roasted character. While it begins with a gentle malty sweetness, the profile transitions into an elegantly dry and easy-drinking finish, showcasing the perfect equilibrium between rich chocolate depth and a clean, lingering roast.
Appearance. Opaque black (SRM 40). Thick, creamy, and highly persistent tan head with dense lacing.
Aroma. High intensity of roasted malts with prominent notes of espresso, dark chocolate, and a distinct touch of licorice. Moderate dark fruit esters resembling raisins. Very low earthy hop aroma and a subtle grainy-nutty oatmeal scent.
Taste. Initial malt sweetness of milk chocolate and dark fruit followed by robust roasted coffee and bittersweet cocoa. The oats contribute a toasty, nutty flavor. Medium-low bitterness provides balance without being harsh. Finishes medium-dry and clean with a lingering roasted-grain aftertaste.
