Basqueland Avalanche is a classic West Coast-style American IPA that balances a robust malt backbone with a powerful resinous punch. The inclusion of Crystal malt provides a deep golden hue and a smooth layer of caramel sweetness that grounds the assertive hop bitterness. On the nose and palate, a "dank" aromatic profile leads the way, driven by Amarillo and Simcoe, offering notes of dried flowers and fresh grass. Mosaic enters the fray during the dry-hop, adding nuanced layers of forest berries and subtle tropical complexity. It finishes dry and lingering, showcasing a classic interplay between piney resin and toasted grain.
Appearance. Deep gold to light amber (8–10 SRM) with a brilliant clarity. Topped by a medium-sized, persistent white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma characterized by resinous pine, damp soil, and fresh-cut grass. Notes of floral Amarillo and Simcoe provide a bright counterpoint, while Mosaic adds a distinct berry-like sweetness. A low but supporting malt presence provides hints of light caramel and toasted bread.
Taste. Firm bitterness leads the palate, followed by hop flavors of resin, wildflowers, and forest berries. The malt character is prominent for the style, featuring a clean caramel sweetness from the Crystal malt that balances the high IBU. The fermentation is clean, leading into a medium-dry finish with a long-lasting, resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from the heavy hopping. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a crisp bite. A light, smooth alcohol warmth is present at 7.2% ABV without being harsh.
