This Imperial Stout offers a profound sensory journey, shaped by a 28-month residency in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. A base of English malts, including Chocolate malt, Caramel malt, and Crystal malt, underwent a six-hour boil to produce deep Maillard complexity. The addition of Golden Naked oats provides a luxurious, viscous foundation for intense notes of Madagascar vanilla, offering floral and caramel highlights, alongside Ugandan vanilla, which brings earthy, spicy, and chocolatey depths. Expect a harmonious integration of oak, aged spirits, and dark fruits like raisins and liquorice, concluding in a warming, velvety finish that highlights the masterful interplay of wood and malt.
Appearance. Jet black (SRM 40+) and opaque. Features a dense, creamy, deep tan head with moderate retention. High viscosity is evident through pronounced legs on the glass.
Aroma. Intense and complex, dominated by rich bourbon and charred oak. High notes of dark chocolate and coffee-like roast are layered with distinct vanilla profiles—floral Madagascar and spicy Ugandan. Significant dark fruit esters of raisins and plums are present, supported by a deep caramel sweetness.
Taste. Initial impressions of dark chocolate and liquorice give way to complex layers of caramel and toasted bread. The mid-palate reveals raisins and spicy oak from the long maturation. The bourbon character is well-integrated, providing a sweet spirit note alongside the dual-origin vanilla. Bitterness is moderate-high but balanced by the massive malt backbone. The finish is long, warming, and bittersweet.
Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied with a chewy, velvety, and exceptionally silky texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth provides a lingering glow without being sharp or solventy.
