Basqueland Alvin
Basqueland Alvin is a decadent Imperial Stout that delivers an immersive sensory experience. A complex foundation of eight different malts provides a robust base of baked bread and deep roast. Infusions of freshly roasted Sakona Coffee beans offer intense espresso notes, seamlessly integrated with the aromatic warmth of whole vanilla beans and cacao. The profile is defined by a luxurious dark chocolate sweetness that balances the assertive roasted bitterness. Despite its formidable strength, the character remains harmonious, featuring subtle dark fruit esters and a gentle, lingering alcohol warmth that reflects its old school pastry inspiration.
Appearance. Opaque jet black (40 SRM) with a thick, persistent deep tan head. The high viscosity and alcohol content are evidenced by pronounced legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity and deeply layered, led by pungent freshly roasted Sakona Coffee and dark cocoa. Complementary notes of whole vanilla beans provide a creamy sweetness, supported by rich, bready malt and subtle esters of plum and black currant. A clean alcohol warmth is noticeable but refined.
Taste. The initial impression is a complex mix of bittersweet dark chocolate and intense espresso. A robust malt presence contributes toasted bread and light caramel flavors. Vanilla provides a smoothing sweetness that rounds out the aggressive roasted malt character. Bitterness is firm, balancing the rich sugars and leading to a long, warming finish with a lingering aftertaste of cocoa.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the beer's creamy, mouth-coating quality. A smooth, gentle alcohol warmth is present without being harsh or solventy.
