Basqueland / Gamma Spectra
Spectra, a collaborative Hazy IPA, radiates with a luminous, tropical intensity. It opens with an explosive sensory bouquet of ripe mango, guava, and vibrant citrus zest, highlighting the modern character of the Spectra hops. The malt profile is expertly tuned, offering a soft, bready cushion of grains that supports the heavy dry-hopping without any distracting caramel notes. On the palate, the experience is profoundly juicy, emphasizing stone fruit and pineapple over sharp bitterness. The finish is remarkably smooth and off-dry, leaving a clean, fruity impression. This beer epitomizes the style’s focus on hop-derived fruit complexity and a velvety, approachable structure.
Appearance. Straw to light gold (4 SRM) with an opaque, uniform haze that creates a vibrant glow. Topped by a persistent, rocky, white meringue-like head with exceptional lacing and high retention.
Aroma. High intensity aromatics of tropical fruit, specifically passionfruit and mango, paired with bright grapefruit citrus. A clean, lightly bready malt backbone provides support, alongside neutral fermentation esters that allow the hops to dominate. No hop-derived grassiness or herbal notes are present.
Taste. High to very high fruity hop flavors of tropical stone fruit and citrus juice. Low bready malt sweetness provides balance against a soft, restrained hop bitterness (low to medium-low). The profile is clean and hop-forward with no harsh or grassy edges, finishing off-dry with a lingering tropical essence.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a pillowy, soft, and silky texture. Moderate carbonation provides a gentle lift. Very low alcohol warmth consistent with its 5.5% strength. Devoid of astringency or raw starch texture, maintaining high drinkability.
