Barsham Brewery B.O.B. (Bitter Old Bustard)

B.O.B. (Bitter Old Bustard) presents as a quintessential English session ale, pouring a deep russet with exceptional clarity. The aroma is led by a nuanced blend of three classic British hop varieties, contributing earthy, floral, and slightly herbal notes over a foundation of bready and lightly caramelized malt. On the palate, a firm but refined bitterness takes center stage, balanced by biscuity malt sweetness and subtle fruity esters characteristic of a traditional Best Bitter. This Ordinary Bitter remains remarkably drinkable, offering a clean, dry finish that invites another sip, perfectly capturing the pastoral character of its East Anglian heritage.
Appearance. Deep copper to russet (12–14 SRM). Clear to brilliant clarity. Moderate off-white head with fair retention and light lacing.
Aroma. Moderate malt intensity featuring toasted bread, biscuit, and light caramel. Low to moderate earthy, floral, and slightly resiny hop character from British varieties. Subtle fruity esters reminiscent of dried orchard fruit.
Taste. Initial bready malt sweetness is quickly overtaken by a medium-high hop bitterness. Flavors of toasted grain and light toffee are balanced by earthy and herbal hop notes. Finishes dry and clean with a lingering, refined bitterness and faint ester fruitiness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, non-astringent texture. Moderate carbonation provides a gentle prickle on the tongue. Very low alcohol warmth.
