Baron Brewing’s Gunslinger is a robust Red IPA that balances a sticky malt backbone with a vibrant, hop-forward profile. Fermented with a Kveik yeast strain at high temperatures, it provides a clean yet expressive foundation for intense notes of red berries and sharp grapefruit. The post-fermentation hop additions ensure a fresh, aromatic punch that harmonizes with the rich, specialty malt character. This small-batch beer delivers a fuller body than its 6.2% ABV suggests, marrying the citrusy qualities of a Specialty IPA with the toasted-toffee depth and jammy fruit layers expected of a contemporary red ale.
Appearance. Deep amber to reddish-copper (11–18 SRM). Moderate off-white head with good retention and light lacing. Generally clear, though a faint hop haze may be present from the significant cold-side additions.
Aroma. High hop intensity featuring prominent red berries and ruby grapefruit. The malt presence is moderate, leaning toward caramel, toasted bread, and a slight jam-like sweetness. The Kveik fermentation contributes very subtle citrus esters that complement the hop-driven character.
Taste. Initial impression of sweet, sticky malts with flavors of toffee and lightly toasted grain. This is quickly met by high hop flavors of tart grapefruit and mixed red fruits. Medium-high bitterness provides a firm structure, balancing the residual malt sweetness. The finish is relatively dry with a lingering berry and resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate. A light, pleasant alcohol warmth is present, though the high fermentation temperature remains well-integrated and clean.
