This massive Imperial Stout presents a multi-layered sensory journey, defined by its 13-20 month rest in Cognac, Thomas Handy Rye, Old Elk, and Stagg Jr. barrels. A decadent wave of toasted coconut dominates the foreground, melding seamlessly into a base of bittersweet chocolate and espresso. The Cognac influence provides a sophisticated vinous lift, while the rye and bourbon barrels contribute nuances of spicy peppercorn, charred oak, and rich vanilla. At 15% ABV, the warmth is profound yet smooth, complementing a viscous, velvety texture that carries deep notes of black currants and molasses into a long, luxurious finish.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. A thin, dark tan head forms with low retention, quickly receding to a persistent collar that leaves thick, oily legs on the glass, indicative of the high alcohol and viscosity.
Aroma. High intensity and deeply complex. Initial aromas of toasted coconut and vanilla bean are followed by rich dark chocolate and black licorice.
