The 7% alcohol provides a gentle warmth that complements the malty core without overshadowing the delicate earthy hop presence. The finish is uniquely structured, blending the style's signature roasted dryness with a sophisticated, lingering acidity and wood character from the red wine casks, resulting in a robust and refined sensory experience.
Appearance. Deep reddish-copper with brilliant clarity and an SRM near 14. It is topped by a medium-low, creamy tan head with moderate persistence and light lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity featuring rich caramel, toasted bread crusts, and a faint hint of roasted grain. The red wine barrel introduces distinct notes of oak, black cherry, and a light grape skin earthiness. Hop aroma is very low and earthy, while the fermentation profile remains clean with a slight alcoholic lift.
Taste. Initial impressions of soft toffee and biscuit sweetness are joined by a vinous, red fruit character. The mid-palate reveals toasted malt and light oak tannins. Bitterness is medium-low, providing balance against the malt and wood sugars. The finish is medium-dry, characterized by a light roasted grain dryness and a subtle, lingering wine-like presence.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body, offering more weight than typical examples due to the barrel aging and 7% ABV. Carbonation is moderate and smooth. A pleasant alcohol warmth is present, accompanied by a very slight, drying tannin from the wood.
