This modern take on an Ordinary Bitter balances British tradition with a vibrant Parisian personality. A base of barley and wheat creates a soft, rounded texture, while Cara Vienne malt contributes a delicate honey-like sweetness and a golden hue. The character is defined by the addition of Cascade hops, which introduce refreshing citrus notes and a light floral touch against the traditional bready malt profile. It finishes with a clean, approachable bitterness that lingers pleasantly. Despite its higher strength for the style, it remains highly drinkable, marrying the fruity esters of the fermentation with the bright aromatics of American hops.
Appearance. Golden to pale amber (SRM 8-10). Clear with a moderate white head that shows good retention and light lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity. Bready, biscuity malt complexity is complemented by a light honey-like sweetness from Cara Vienne. Cascade hops provide a distinct citrus character featuring grapefruit and orange with a faint floral background. Low to moderate fruity esters are present. No diacetyl.
Taste. Initial impression of soft, bready malt followed by a medium-high bitterness. Bright citrus hop flavors from Cascade lead the palate, mingling with the subtle residual sweetness of Cara Vienne. The finish is dry and clean with a lingering earthy and citrus aftertaste. Balance is decidedly bitter but supported by malt weight.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light to medium body, bolstered by the addition of wheat. Moderate carbonation. A subtle, well-integrated alcohol warmth is noticeable due to the 5.8% ABV, yet the beer remains smooth and non-astringent.
