Banks Brewing SOMETHING FOLKY

Stout 9.6 º
Something Folky is a decadent, high-gravity interpretation of an American Stout, elevated by a sophisticated layering of dessert-inspired adjuncts. It presents an intense sensory profile led by the rich, earthy depth of Commonfolk’s Brimstone Blend coffee and bitter dark chocolate. The roasted malt foundation is softened by the creamy, tropical warmth of toasted coconut and the floral sweetness of Madagascan vanilla bean. At 9.6% ABV, the experience is bold and velvety, balancing aggressive roast notes with a lush, pastry-like indulgence. The finish is long and luxurious, weaving together charred grain and smooth, spice-driven sweetness for a truly immersive sensory profile.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a thick, persistent, deep tan to light brown head that leaves dense, creamy lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity of roasted malt and freshly ground coffee, featuring the earthy, nutty notes of Brimstone Blend. Secondary layers of toasted coconut and aromatic Madagascan vanilla bean provide a sweet contrast to dark chocolate and lightly burnt grain. Low resinous hop character and subtle dark fruit esters are present, accompanied by a smooth, clean alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression is rich and indulgent, followed by moderate-high roasted flavors of espresso and bittersweet chocolate. The malt profile is complex, displaying caramel and charred bread notes. Low citrusy hop flavor is buried beneath intense additions of coconut and vanilla. Bitterness is firm but tempered by high residual sweetness. The finish is long and luxurious, with a lingering mix of roasted coffee grounds and creamy spice.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a velvety, mouth-coating texture. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a necessary lift to the heavy frame. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present without being hot or fusel. Very low roast-derived astringency.
