This Imperial Stout is an opulent sensory journey, merging deep roasted intensity with vibrant East Asian-inspired ingredients. The initial impact is a rich wave of dark chocolate and toasted sesame, providing a savory-sweet foundation. Bright, citrusy Mandarin notes lift the heavy malt profile, while the warmth of ginger adds a spicy, complex counterpoint to the velvet-thick body. Hong Kong honey contributes a delicate floral sweetness that softens the charred roast of the finish. It is a bold, harmonious collaboration that balances the power of high-ABV malt with the nuanced elegance of its specialty adjuncts, resulting in a luscious and multi-layered experience.

Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). It pours with a thick, deep tan head of moderate retention that leaves oily legs on the glass, indicative of its high viscosity and specialty ingredients.

Aroma. Intense and complex. A heavy base of dark chocolate and bittersweet cocoa is layered with the nutty, toasted aroma of sesame and a sharp, zesty Mandarin citrus. Spicy ginger provides a warm, piquant edge, while floral honey notes emerge as the beer warms. Moderate dark fruit esters like prunes and raisins are present, underpinned by a smooth, noticeable alcohol warmth and a hint of charred grain.

Taste. A decadent explosion of bittersweet chocolate and coffee-like roast, quickly joined by the savory richness of toasted sesame. The mid-palate features the bright acidity of Mandarin and a lingering ginger spice that prickles the tongue. Hong Kong honey adds a smooth, floral sweetness that prevents the aggressive roast from becoming harsh. The finish is long and complex, balancing charred grain bitterness with a warming, honeyed aftertaste and a hint of spice.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the beer's weight. A smooth, gentle alcohol warmth is prominent but well-integrated, with no astringency despite the heavy roast and ginger presence.

BANG THE ELEPHANT - Back in 2017 the idea was born, how do you fancy starting a brewery! and so it began with some homebrew knowledge we started bang the elephant brewing co, brewing on a grainfather brewing system for the first year, learning whatever we could and gaining feedback from friends and family along the way, even double brews just to fill one cask to send off to beer festivals and start getting some real feedback.In 2018 after some great feedback and some good success we decided to ramp up production and see what we could do! renting a 4bbl kit we quickly started to brew cask beer for sale to pubs in the surrounding area and then onto keg. In 2019 we were presented with an amazing opportunity to move into the abstract jungle brewery and purchase it under the expert tutelage of Mr Simon King the head brewer which brought us to where we are today.
