Appearance. Deep brown to near-black (SRM 30–40) with ruby highlights at the edges. Topped by a creamy, tan, long-lasting head that leaves dense lacing. Clarity is clear but often appears opaque due to the depth of color.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Strong notes of dark-roasted coffee and cocoa nibs lead, followed by a secondary layer of sweet vanilla. The base malt provides scents of toasted bread crust and dark caramel. Low earthy hop aroma is present, with very low fruity esters.
