This elevated English Porter offers a decadent sensory journey, leaning into the warmth of spiced black rum and the richness of single-origin Vanuatu cocoa. The pour is deep mahogany, inviting aromas of toffee and biscuit from the base malt alongside the distinct, sweet perfume of FNQ vanilla. On the palate, a velvety layer of chocolate melds with the spice-forward notes of Dead Man's Drop rum, providing a subtle spirituous depth without harshness. While more robust than a standard porter, it maintains a mellow character, finishing with a balanced, lingering sweetness and a gentle, comforting warmth perfect for slow sipping.
Appearance. Deep mahogany to dark brown (25-30 SRM) with brilliant ruby highlights. Crowned by a dense, persistent light tan head with excellent retention and lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Dominant notes of dark chocolate and aromatic vanilla beans lead into secondary layers of toffee and toasted biscuit malt. A subtle but distinct spiced rum presence offers hints of clove and cinnamon, complemented by low earthy hop notes and moderate fruity esters.
Taste. Initial impression is of rich milk chocolate and creamy vanilla. The mid-palate reveals complex bready and toasted malt flavors with a background of dark fruit. Bitterness is medium-low, providing just enough structure to balance the sweetness of the cocoa and the spiced rum influence.
