Bad Seed Brewing

Southern Fuzz is a bright Hazy IPA designed to showcase the vibrant citrus potential of New Zealand hops. The primary sensory driver is the Southern Cross hop, which delivers a bold, soda-like expression of lemon and lime. This citrus foundation is further enriched by Motueka on the hot side, adding layers of zesty fruit. The addition of Krush Cryo and Cryo Pop intensifies the profile, introducing notes of tropical gummy candies and ripe pineapple with a subtle, underlying dankness. It pours with a classic soft, pillowy character, balancing an intense New World hop bouquet against a gentle, grainy malt backdrop for a refreshing and juice-forward finish.

Appearance. Color is a pale straw to light gold (4 SRM) with a deep, opaque haze that gives the beer a luminous shine. It is topped by a dense, meringue-like white head with high retention and thick, persistent lacing.

Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent lemon-lime soda, fresh pineapple, and tropical fruit medley. Supporting notes of resinous dankness and sweet citrus oil are present. The malt character is low, offering a neutral, bready, and grainy backbone, while the fermentation is clean with subtle fruity esters.

Taste. Initial impression is a burst of juicy lemon and lime, followed by complex flavors of tropical gummy bears and sweet pineapple. Malt flavor is low and bready, providing just enough support for the massive hop load. Bitterness is low to moderate, perceived as soft and smooth rather than sharp. The finish is off-dry to medium, with a lingering aftertaste of tropical fruit and citrus zest.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, pillowy, and smooth texture. Carbonation is moderate. There is a light, well-integrated alcohol warmth and a total absence of hop harshness or astringency.
