Nelson Nelson John John is a lush Double IPA defined by a saturated hop profile and a decadent, protein-forward grain bill. The interaction of Nelson Sauvin, Citra, and Mosaic hops creates a complex bouquet of Sauvignon Blanc grapes, overripe pineapple, and vibrant passionfruit. The heavy inclusion of flaked wheat, malted wheat, and dextrine malts yields a luxurious, velvety texture that supports intense flavors of kiwi and peach fruit gushers. Dank, resinous undertones from Citra Cryo and Mosaic Cryo provide depth, while a unique Thai basil herbal edge adds intrigue. This is a potent, fruit-forward experience with a smooth, lingering tropical finish.
Appearance. Deep straw to light gold (6–8 SRM). Opaque haziness from the high wheat content. Topped by a thick, persistent, creamy white head that leaves significant lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of white grape, tropical passionfruit, and crushed pineapple. Secondary notes of bright citrus zest and a distinct herbal, basil-like spiciness. Malt is low and neutral, appearing as a soft, doughy wheat character in the background. Clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical fruit juice, featuring kiwi and peach. Low, supportive bready malt flavor provides a soft foundation for massive hop flavors of grapefruit, pineapple, and dank resin. Bitterness is firm but smooth, lacking any harshness. The finish is medium-dry with a long, lingering aftertaste of tropical fruit and subtle herbal spice.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a remarkably creamy, pillowy texture. Carbonation is moderate. A gentle, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, reflecting the strength without being solventy. Smooth texture with no hop-derived astringency.
