This formidable English Barley Wine showcases the power of a double-mash and 27 months in Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels. The sensory journey begins with an opulent fusion of rich English malts and complex barrel aesthetics. Heady aromas of charred oak, vanilla, and toasted coconut intertwine with the base beer’s deep profile of sun-dried dark fruits and sweet tobacco. On the palate, decadent layers of dark chocolate and treacle are balanced by the earthy influence of English hops and lingering bourbon warmth. Its monumental texture is velvety and viscous, delivering a sophisticated, slow-sipping experience defined by extreme concentration and masterful maturation.
Appearance. Deep mahogany with brilliant ruby highlights (18–22 SRM). A thin, persistent tan collar leaves fine lacing, though the high viscosity and 15.5% ABV create pronounced, oily legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity and multi-layered. Dominant notes of bourbon-soaked oak, vanilla, and coconut rise above a rich English malt base of toffee and bread crust. Deep fruity esters of fig and raisin are complemented by nuances of dark chocolate and cured tobacco. Hop aroma is very low, appearing as a faint, earthy whisper.
Taste. Initial impression is one of massive malty sweetness and luxury. Complex flavors of black forest fruits, molasses, and chocolate are accented by the barrel's influence of vanilla bean and spicy oak. Medium-low bitterness from English hops provides just enough structure to prevent cloying, while aged alcohol adds a vinous, sherry-like depth. The finish is long and warming with a lingering tobacco and charred wood aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Exceptionally full-bodied and viscous with a chewy, tongue-coating texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the creamy mouthfeel. A strong, yet smooth and rounded alcohol warmth reflects its high gravity without being harsh or fusel.
