Java the Nut is a decadent Imperial Gose that redefines the style through a lens of rich, dessert-like indulgence. At 10% ABV, it presents a complex profile where the earthy, roasted depth of carefully selected Coffee Beans melds seamlessly with the savory, buttery richness of Peanuts. The addition of Lactose and Oats provides a creamy, luxurious texture that tempers the light lactic tang. While the traditional salt and acidity are present, they are dialed back to provide a subtle saline lift that enhances the coffee’s nuances. It is a bold experience that balances savory, sweet, and tart elements with a sophisticated, warming finish.
Appearance. Pours a deep copper to light brown (SRM 12–18) with a moderate to full haze. Features a creamy, off-white to light tan head with fair retention and moderate lacing.
Aroma. High intensity aroma dominated by freshly roasted coffee, cocoa nibs, and distinct roasted peanut character. Secondary notes of doughy, bready wheat malt are present, alongside a very subtle lactic tartness and a faint hint of mineral salinity. Hop character is absent.
Taste. The initial impression is rich and savory-sweet, led by dominant coffee and peanut butter flavors. A sturdy, bready malt backbone is bolstered by lactose sweetness. Bitterness is low, primarily derived from the coffee roast rather than hops. Fermentation character is clean with a mild, integrated lactic acidity that provides balance without being sharp. The finish is lingering and semi-sweet, featuring a nutty aftertaste and a slight saline snap.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a smooth, coating texture from the addition of oats and lactose. Carbonation is moderate. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present. The salt provides a subtle, mouthwatering quality that rounds out the finish.
