Rumpkin is a colossal Autumn Seasonal Beer that defines decadence through its intense, spirit-forward profile. Brewed with roasted pumpkins and a bold spice blend of nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger, it undergoes extensive aging in fresh rum barrels. The resulting sensory experience is a symphony of candied molasses, toasted oak, and rich gourd sweetness. At nearly seventeen percent alcohol, the aromatics are dominated by heady rum notes and warm autumnal spices. On the palate, expect a viscous, velvet-like texture where the deep caramel malts and spicy pumpkin pie character are punctuated by a powerful, yet sophisticated, boozy warmth and lingering vanilla-oak finish.
Appearance. Deep copper to burnished mahogany with distinct orange highlights. Generally clear, though its high density adds a visual weight. The off-white head is minimal and fleeting due to extreme alcohol content, leaving oily legs and heavy lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity; a potent bouquet of dark rum and charred oak leads into a festive spice rack of cinnamon, pungent ginger, and earthy nutmeg. Deep malt sweetness suggests treacle and brown sugar, complemented by the savory-sweet aroma of roasted pumpkin flesh.
Taste. Initial impression of candied molasses and rum-soaked raisins. Mid-palate, the roasted pumpkin adds a rich, vegetal sweetness that supports the assertive spice profile. Hop bitterness is low, allowing the spices and alcohol to provide structure. The finish is long and warming, showing complex layers of vanilla, toffee, and spicy oak.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally viscous with a chewy, nectar-like mouth-coating. Carbonation is low to moderately low. A significant, yet smooth, alcohol warmth glows in the chest, while the barrel aging lends a slight tannic dryness to the otherwise sweet finish.
