Mephistopheles’ Stout is an imposing Imperial Stout that pours a deep, coal black with a viscous, liqueur-like presence. The sensory experience is defined by an incredibly complex bouquet of vine-ripened grapes, star anise, and decadent chocolate-covered cherries. On the palate, it unfolds with layers of rum-soaked caramelized dark fruits and a robust, double espresso finish that balances the significant residual sweetness. Despite its massive 14.6% ABV, the character remains velvety and integrated, offering a sophisticated interplay of roasted malt depth and vinous esters. This is a bold, slow-sipping experience with a lingering, warming complexity and a rich, velvety texture.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (40+ SRM). Pours with a thick, deep tan to dark brown head with moderate retention. Highly viscous with visible legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity and extremely complex. Dominant notes of bittersweet chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and anise. Strong dark fruit esters resembling black cherries, raisins, and vinous grapes. Noticeable liqueur-like alcohol presence with a hint of rum-like sweetness.
Taste. Intense and multi-layered. Initial flavors of caramelized dark fruits and rum-soaked raisins transition into heavy roasted malt and bittersweet chocolate. High bitterness provides balance to the massive malt sweetness. The finish is long and complex, featuring a double espresso roast character, dark fruit skins, and a significant but smooth alcohol warmth.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied, chewy, and viscous. Velvety and luscious texture with low to moderate carbonation. Pronounced alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated into the thick body.
