Beans & Coco is a decadent American Porter that marries a robust roasted base with the bright, aromatic intensity of locally roasted Colombian coffee. The sensory experience is led by rich layers of dark chocolate and espresso, softened by the tropical, nutty sweetness of toasted coconut. Lactose lends a velvet-like creaminess to the palate, bridging the gap between the assertive bitterness of the dark malts and the residual sweetness of the adjuncts. This 6% brew finishes with a balanced, lingering mocha character, offering a lush and complex sensory-rich take on a classic dark ale style that remains smooth and approachable despite its ingredient intensity.
Appearance. Very dark brown to black in color (SRM 38) and opaque in the glass. It features a full, dense, tan-colored head with moderately good retention and thick lacing.
Aroma. High intensity aroma of freshly ground Colombian coffee and dark chocolate. Prominent toasted coconut notes provide a nutty, tropical sweetness. Secondary notes of caramel and a creamy lactose sweetness support a moderate roasted malt character. Hop aroma is low and earthy, while fermentation esters are clean and neutral.
Taste. Moderately strong roasted flavor dominated by dark chocolate and espresso notes. The toasted coconut adds a distinct oily sweetness and nutty complexity that persists through the mid-palate. Medium-high bitterness from both roasted grains and hops is present but softened by the lactose. The finish is medium-sweet and smooth, with a lingering mocha and coconut aftertaste that lacks any acrid or burnt harshness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a noticeably creamy and smooth texture from the lactose. Carbonation is moderate. There is a light, well-integrated alcohol warmth consistent with its 6% strength. Astringency is very low, ensuring a rounded mouthfeel.
