This decadent Imperial Stout envelops the senses in a liquid chocolate cream reminiscent of a nostalgic childhood breakfast. Natural defatted cocoa powder and pure hazelnut extract infuse the dark-roasted malt backbone with luxurious layers of rich Nutella-like spread, sweet milk chocolate, and toasted filberts. Beneath the sweet pastry layers, a solid foundation of roasted barley provides deep espresso notes, preventing the rich dessert elements from becoming cloying. It is a velvety, warming experience where the intense cocoa and nutty sweetness harmonize beautifully with the robust alcohol of this modern, indulgent stout.
Appearance. Opaque, jet-black pour (SRM 40+) with a dense, slow-rising, dark brown head that displays moderate retention and leaves a thick collar around the glass. High viscosity is apparent in heavy legs clinging to the sides.
Aroma. Highly intense and dessert-forward, dominated by sweet hazelnut spread and rich, natural cocoa powder. The adjuncts layer over a deep malt base of dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and light caramel. Very low earthy hop aroma, with subtle dark fruit esters (plum, raisin) and a clean, warming alcohol presence in the background.
Taste. Initial impression is rich, creamy, and decadent, mimicking liquid chocolate-hazelnut cream. Intensely sweet chocolate and toasted hazelnut flavors dominate the palate, supported by underlying dark malt roastiness of espresso and bittersweet chocolate. Hop bitterness is moderate to low, functioning primarily to restrain the heavy sweetness alongside a touch of roasted grain. The finish is lingering, sweet, and dessert-like, with a comforting, smooth alcohol warmth.
Mouthfeel. Full and exceptionally viscous with a chewy, velvety, and luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the creaminess. Noticeable but smooth and gentle alcohol warmth spreads across the palate with no harshness or astringency.
