Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40+ SRM). It pours with a thick, dense, dark tan head that exhibits moderate retention and leaves significant lacing. The high alcohol and viscosity are evident in the slow-moving legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity and deeply complex. Dominant notes of bittersweet chocolate and espresso roast are layered with a prominent jammy Raspberry character. Secondary notes include sweet Vanilla, charred oak, and a hint of spirit-like Single Malt warmth. Esters of dark fruit and a creamy sweetness from Lactose round out the bouquet.
Taste. An intense initial impression of cocoa and dark fruit. The malt profile is rich with flavors of burnt grain and dark chocolate, balanced by the tartness of the Raspberry. Single Malt Oak Chips contribute a subtle woody depth, while the Lactose provides a heavy, milky sweetness that coats the palate. Bitterness is moderate but largely perceived as low due to the residual sugars. The finish is sweet and lingering with a smooth alcohol warmth.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, emphasizing the beer's decadence. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, complemented by a high degree of creaminess and very low astringency.
