Mandela Effect is a modern expression of an American Pale Ale that leans into the lush, hazy evolution of the style. Built upon a heavy grist of oats and fermented with Vermont yeast, it offers a creamy, cloud-like texture that belies its sessionable strength. The double dry-hopped profile showcases the distinctive New Zealand duo of Nelson and Superdelic hops. Nelson provides an intense aromatic burst of fresh crushed gooseberry, white wine, and green grape, while Superdelic contributes layers of berry-like fruitiness. Despite the heavy dry-hopping and use of liquid hops, the bitterness remains exceptionally low, allowing the vibrant tropical fruit notes to lead into a soft, clean finish.
Appearance.Pale straw to light gold (4-6 SRM). Significant haze with an opaque quality. Persistent, thick white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma.High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of white wine, crushed gooseberry, and green grape. Background notes of tropical fruit and berry esters from the Vermont yeast. Low, grainy, bread-like malt character with no caramel.
Taste.Initial impression is juicy and fruit-forward. Dominant hop flavors of grape, gooseberry, and subtle citrus. Malt provides a soft, bready foundation that supports the hops without competing. Bitterness is very low for the style, far below the standard IBU range, resulting in a balanced-sweet impression. The finish is clean and smooth with a lingering fruit skin aftertaste.
Mouthfeel.Medium body with a distinctive silkiness and creaminess provided by the heavy oat grist. Moderate carbonation. No alcohol warmth or hop astringency. Very soft, rounded mouthfeel.
