Athletic Brewing’s Downwinder is an exceptionally refreshing Straight Sour Beer that presents a vibrant sensory profile. It leads with a sharp, clean lactic acidity complemented by the fragrant, citrusy essence of lime leaf and the herbal spice of coriander. A subtle minerality from salt enhances the palate without being overt, while the soft wheat malt provides a delicate crackery foundation. This highly effervescent brew is light and crisp, delivering a tart, lemony finish that is remarkably clean. The absence of hop bitterness allows the interplay of zest and spice to remain the focal point of this bright, thirst-quenching beer.

Appearance. Pale straw to gold (2-3 SRM). Large, dense white head with poor retention. Slight haze from wheat and coriander; highly effervescent.

Aroma. High intensity of clean lactic sourness. Distinct lime leaf and floral coriander notes dominate. Low malt character of fresh bread and crackers. No hop aroma.

Taste. Initial sharp lactic sourness balanced by grainy wheat flavors. Significant lime and citrus fruitiness with a hint of tart apple. Notable but subtle saltiness. Undetectable hop bitterness. Finish is bone-dry, crisp, and refreshing.
