Inspired by lush, breakfast-style stouts, this Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer pours a deep ebony with a decadent, creamy tan head. An inviting, highly aromatic nose leads with robust freshly roasted coffee from Edgecumbe's and the rich, dusty sweetness of Noble & Stace cocoa nibs, balanced by a gentle, woody hint of maple syrup. On the palate, a velvety base of dark roasted malts supports layers of bittersweet chocolate and espresso, rounded out by a smooth, lingering maple sweetness. It delivers a plush, comforting mouthfeel that remains remarkably drinkable at its sessionable strength.
Appearance. Opaque, deep ebony to jet black (SRM 40) with a thick, dense, persistent tan head that leaves rich, sticky lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity, dominated by freshly roasted coffee and rich, dark chocolate from cocoa nibs, complemented by a distinct, sweet, and slightly woody maple syrup character. Low earthy hop aroma and neutral fermentation esters allow the adjuncts and roasted malts to take center stage.
Taste. Initial impression of sweet chocolate and rich espresso. The flavor profile is defined by a harmonious blend of bittersweet dark chocolate, freshly brewed coffee, and a smooth, caramel-like maple sweetness. Mouthfeel. Medium-full, creamy, and velvety on the palate. Carbonation is moderate, and there is a very soft, comforting alcohol warmth that aligns well with its moderate strength. Low astringency.
