Baltic Porter 8 º
Drawing inspiration from traditional Latvian brewing in the Latgale region, this Baltic Porter delivers a deeply complex profile built from eight dark malts and structured by German Noble hops. It greets the senses with rich aromas of dark chocolate, molasses, and dark dried fruits like plum and raisin, underpinned by a clean fermentation character. The palate is incredibly smooth and velvety, offering a harmonious blend of sweet caramel, toasted nuts, and a gentle, warming alcohol presence. It finishes moderately dry with a refined, Schwarzbier-like roasted character, steering completely clear of harsh, burnt notes.
Appearance. Opaque dark brown to deep mahogany with brilliant reddish-copper highlights when held to the light. Crowned by a thick, persistent, and creamy tan head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High-intensity rich maltiness characterized by dark chocolate, molasses, toasted nuts, and licorice. Moderately strong dark fruit esters reminiscent of raisins, prunes, and dark cherries lend a vinous, Port-like complexity. Clean fermentation profile with a subtle, spicy aroma from German Noble hops and a well-integrated, soft alcohol warmth.
Taste. Begins with a rich, malty-sweet impression of dark chocolate, toffee, and black currant. A smooth, debittered roasted malt flavor quickly emerges, bringing notes of espresso and licorice without any harsh or burnt grain character. Medium-low bitterness from German Noble hops provides a balanced structure. The finish is smooth and moderately dry, leaving a lingering aftertaste of dried fruits and gentle cocoa.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full, incredibly smooth, and velvety on the palate. Carbonation is medium-high, which prevents the beer from feeling heavy or cloying. Features a deceptive, well-aged alcohol warmth that is smooth and comforting, with no harsh astringency.
