Arriaca Imperial Russian Stout Barrel Aged
This Imperial Stout presents a masterful intersection of deep roasting and refined barrel character. Six months of aging in whiskey-seasoned oak barrels imparts distinct layers of aromatic vanilla and structured wood tannins to the base beer. The sensory journey is dominated by intense espresso and bittersweet chocolate notes derived from heavily roasted malts, complemented by dark fruit esters such as prunes and raisins. On the palate, the texture is exceptionally silky, delivering a liquorous warmth that highlights the whiskey influence without becoming harsh. The finish is long and complex, balancing a firm bitterness with lingering notes of toasted oak and cocoa.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (SRM 40). Pours with a thick, long-lasting, and compact cinnamon-beige head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and charred grain. Distinctive notes of vanilla and oak emerge from the barrel aging, alongside dark fruit esters of plum and black currant. A clean, warming alcohol presence is evident.
Taste. Rich and multi-layered, beginning with intense dark chocolate and roasted malt. The mid-palate features an explosion of coffee and vanilla, integrated with woody oak and subtle whiskey undertones. Bitterness is firm and balancing. The finish is long, slightly sweet, and liquorous with a pleasant roasted aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a velvety, chewy texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. Noticeable, smooth alcohol warmth provides a comforting presence without being hot or solventy.
