Arbor Ales Whose Lime Is It Anyway?
This collaboration between Arbor Ales and New Bristol Brewery delivers a vibrant, sensory-focused Hazy IPA experience centered on zesty lime. The beer presents an intense citrus profile, where sharp, fresh lime juice notes intermingle with tropical hop character. The addition of lactose provides a smooth, creamy sweetness that balances the natural acidity of the lime, reminiscent of a lime milkshake. A soft, pillowy malt backbone supports the juicy hop expression without introducing distracting toast or caramel. It is a refreshing, dessert-like take on the style, offering a luxurious mouthfeel and a bright, citrus-forward finish that lingers pleasantly on the palate.
Appearance. Straw to pale gold with a distinctive opaque, milky haze. Pours with a dense, rocky, meringue-like white head that demonstrates high retention and leaves thick lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity of fresh lime zest and lime curd, layered over tropical fruit hop notes of pineapple and mango. A subtle, creamy sweetness from lactose is present, supported by a clean, bready, and neutral malt character. No clashing yeast esters or harsh alcohol.
Taste. Explosive lime juice and citrus hop flavors dominate the initial impression. The mid-palate is characterized by a soft, bready malt sweetness and a smooth, lactose-driven creaminess. Bitterness is low to moderate, serving only to balance the sweet fruit profile without being sharp. The finish is off-dry and juicy, with a lingering aftertaste of lime peel and tropical fruit.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, pillowy texture and a noticeable creaminess from the lactose and flaked grains. Carbonation is moderate. No astringency or hop burn, with a very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
