Arbor Ales

Foundations is a vibrant Wild Specialty Beer that captures the essence of homemade limoncello. It features a bright, citrus-forward profile driven by the inclusion of fresh lemon zest and juice, complemented by the herbal and citrusy notes of Lemon Drop hops. The wild fermentation provides a crisp, refreshing acidity that cuts through the base malt, creating a lively sensory experience. Expect waves of zingy lemon peel and a subtle, underlying funk that adds complexity. This collaboration celebrates International Women's Day with a balanced interplay between zesty fruit character and the rustic, dry finish characteristic of American wild ales.

Appearance. Pale straw to light gold (3–5 SRM) with a slight, persistent haze from the addition of lemon juice. The white head is moderate in height with fair retention, typical of acidic wild styles, leaving light lacing.

Aroma. High intensity aromatics of fresh lemon zest and candied lemon peel. The Lemon Drop hops contribute herbal, minty, and additional citrus notes. A moderate lactic tartness is present, alongside light earthy funk and a very low, bready malt background.

Taste. Initial impression is a sharp, refreshing burst of lemon juice and zest. The acidity is moderate to firm but well-integrated, mimicking the tartness of limoncello. Lemon Drop hops add a subtle herbal bitterness against a low IBU backdrop. The finish is very dry and crisp with a lingering citrus oil aftertaste and minimal crackery malt character.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with high carbonation that enhances the effervescent, refreshing character. Alcohol warmth is subtle but well-integrated at 6% ABV. There is no significant astringency despite the citrus pith, resulting in a clean and lively mouthfeel.

ARBOR ALES - Arbor Ales have been brewing beer in the fine city of Bristol since early 2007. From their site in Easton, the team currently brews and packages in excess of one and a half million pints a year. That’s pints, full pints and nothing but pints (apart from the odd 440ml can, but they don’t talk about those). Never shying away from trying out new ideas, they have an extensive back catalogue of recipes covering a vast array of styles and ABV’s. Though all different in their own way, the recipes were all born out of a desire to make beer that Arbor are proud of and importantly, that they really want to drink themselves.
