Antiqua Pale Ale
3 Ratings
Antiqua Pale Ale is an artisanal Belgian Pale Ale that distinguishes itself with a more assertive hop presence than typically found in the style. Pouring a clear amber, it features a creamy, persistent head. The aroma is a sophisticated bouquet of floral hop blossoms, toasted biscuit, and light honey, underpinned by pear and orange esters from the yeast. On the palate, a smooth, medium body carries flavors of toasted grain and spicy, floral hops. Naturally carbonated through bottle refermentation, it offers a refreshing crispness and a well-balanced finish where supportive bitterness complements the rich malt complexity.
Appearance. Deep amber to copper (12-14 SRM) with very good clarity. Topped by a creamy, rocky, off-white head with excellent retention and lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity featuring bready and toasty malt notes with a touch of honey. Moderate fruitiness suggestive of pear and orange. Distinctive floral hop character is more prominent than typical for the style, complemented by low peppery yeast phenols.
Taste. Initial impression is of smooth, toasted biscuit and light caramel malt. Moderate fruitiness of orange and apple follows. Hop flavor is floral and herbal, showing more intensity than a standard version. Bitterness is medium-high but balanced, leading to a clean, balanced finish with a lingering floral aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy palate. Carbonation is medium-high and naturally lively due to bottle refermentation. Alcohol warmth is low and well-integrated.
