Appearance. Very dark brown (SRM 30-35) and nearly opaque. Crowned with a dense, persistent, light tan to mocha-colored foam head that leaves intricate lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity with a malty-rich focus. Dominant notes of dark chocolate and freshly ground coffee bean are supported by underlying caramel and nutty toastiness. Hop aroma is low and earthy, while fruity esters remain very low.
Taste. Initial impression is rich and malty, featuring prominent chocolate and toasted coffee flavors. Medium-high bitterness provides a firm balance to the malty-rich sweetness, which includes hints of caramel. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering aftertaste of dark cocoa and a clean hop character. Despite the roasted notes, it avoids harsh or acrid qualities.
