This massive Belgian Dark Strong Ale presents an opulent sensory journey, elevated by a year of maturation in fifteen-year Calumet Farms Bourbon barrels. The profile is a decadent tapestry of dark caramel and toasted oak, interwoven with intense notes of black cherry, mission figs, and Medjool dates. Fermentation in oak contributes a refined vanilla sweetness and subtle coconut, which harmonize with the spicy, perfumy alcohol characteristic of its fifteen-percent strength. On the palate, rich bready-toasty malts support a complex spirit-forward profile. This is a luxurious, full-bodied experience where the warmth of the bourbon and the depth of the Belgian yeast define a lingering, velvety finish.

Appearance. Deep mahogany to dark coppery-brown (18–25 SRM). Due to the high alcohol content and extended barrel aging, the tan head is moderately small with quick dissipation, though it maintains a fine-beaded rim and leaves oily legs on the glass. Clarity is clear to slightly hazy from the oak maturation.

Aroma. High intensity. A complex blend of rich, toasty malt and deep dark fruit esters including raisins, dried cherries, and figs. The Calumet Farms Bourbon barrels contribute prominent aromas of vanilla, toasted oak, and a hint of coconut. Alcohol is noticeable and perfumy but well-integrated, with subtle peppery phenols in the background.

Taste. Initial impression is intensely malty-rich with dark caramel and bready-toasty notes. Mid-palate reveals layers of plum, prune, and date. The barrel aging adds significant character, offering charred oak tannins and a sweet bourbon-spirit finish. Bitterness is low to moderate, providing just enough balance against the residual sugar. The finish is long and warming with lingering notes of vanilla and dark fruit.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a creamy, mouth-coating texture. Carbonation is moderate. Alcohol warmth is significant and throat-warming but remains smooth rather than harsh or solvent-like. Very low astringency from the oak.
