Kamimura is a monumental Imperial Stout that showcases Anchorage Brewing’s mastery of complex barrel aging. Initially fermented in oak foeders before resting for six months in freshly emptied Willett bourbon barrels, this beer delivers a profound wood-forward profile. The sensory experience is defined by the luxurious addition of Neil’s Kona coffee and Hawaiian vanilla beans, which weave seamlessly into a dense tapestry of dark chocolate and toasted oak. The high alcohol content provides a deep, integrated warmth, while the vanilla softens the intense roasted bitterness of the coffee. It is a decadent, viscous liquid with a lingering finish of espresso and sweet bourbon-soaked oak.

Appearance. Opaque, midnight black (40+ SRM) with a thick, creamy, dark tan head that exhibits excellent retention and leaves oily legs on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity and extremely complex. Bold aromas of fresh-ground Kona coffee and rich Hawaiian vanilla dominate the nose, supported by deep bourbon notes of toasted oak, caramel, and subtle coconut. A heavy roasted malt foundation provides secondary notes of dark chocolate and espresso.

Taste. The initial impression is intensely sweet and rich, followed by an explosion of dark-roasted grains and earthy Kona coffee. The mid-palette reveals smooth Hawaiian vanilla and bourbon-soaked wood character. Hop bitterness is low, but the coffee and charred oak provide a firm balance against the residual sugar. The finish is long and warming with lingering notes of vanilla bean and charred wood.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and highly viscous with a syrupy, palate-coating texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the beer’s creaminess. Significant alcohol warmth is present, reflecting the high gravity, but it remains velvety and well-integrated.
