Annihilation is a monumental Double IPA that pushes the boundaries of hop saturation. This quadruple dry-hopped powerhouse features an intricate blend of Sabro, Citra, Enigma, Strata, Mosaic, and Galaxy hops. Sabro leads the charge with distinct notes of coconut and tropical cream, while Citra and Galaxy provide a bright burst of passion fruit and citrus zest. Strata and Mosaic contribute layers of dank resin and ripe summer berries, supported by the nuanced red currant character of Enigma. Despite its massive strength, the beer maintains a focus on pure hop expression, finishing with a firm, clean bitterness and a smooth, warming alcohol presence.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (SRM 7-11). Pours with a heavy, opaque haze and a moderate-sized, persistent, creamy off-white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma featuring a complex medley of coconut, pineapple, passion fruit, and mango. Secondary notes of citrus peel, dank pine, and mixed berries are prominent. Malt character is minimal and neutral, providing a clean, grainy backdrop to the explosive hop profile. Alcohol is noticeable but smooth, not solventy.
Taste. Strong and complex hop flavors of tropical fruit, citrus oils, and herbal coconut. Very high hop bitterness that remains smooth and avoids harshness or vegetal astringency. A clean, soft malt profile supports the hops without adding significant sweetness. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering resinous and fruity aftertaste. Alcohol presence is clean and well-integrated.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present, consistent with its high ABV. Lacks any harsh hop-derived astringency.
