Kia Ora is a vibrant Double IPA that showcases the expressive terroir of New Zealand hops. A trio of Motueka, Nectaron, and Nelson Sauvin drives the experience, delivering an intense sensory profile of zesty lime, ripe tropical fruit, and the signature white grape character of the Nelson Sauvin. Despite its strength at 8.4%, the beer maintains a soft, approachable body with a hazy appearance that carries the layered hop complexity. A clean, neutral malt base provides the structure to support the aggressive hopping, resulting in a bright, modern interpretation that balances warmth with a refreshing, citrus-forward finish.
Appearance. Pale gold to light orange (6–8 SRM). Significant haze with a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head leaving dense lacing.
Aroma. Intense hop character dominated by tropical fruit (pineapple, mango) from Nectaron, crushed lime from Motueka, and distinct white wine and gooseberry notes from Nelson Sauvin. Background malt is neutral and grainy; fermentation is clean with no solventy alcohol.
Taste. High hop bitterness is immediate but lacks harshness. Flavors mirror the aroma with bright lime, tropical stone fruit, and white grape skins. Malt is low and supportive, offering a clean, soft cracker-like foundation. Finish is dry with a lingering, resinous, and fruity hop aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a soft, smooth texture. Carbonation is moderate. A gentle, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, without any hop-derived astringency.
